Installing windows on pentium III from USB drive

Hello

I have a pentium III laptop, and the CD drive is not working. i wanna install windows xp on this computer.
Is it possible to attach a External USB CD Drive and install from it. or de-attach the hard disk and install windows from another computer.
any suggestions may help.
